In China sind aussagekräftige Daten über Rückenmarksverletzungen kaum verfügbar. Schätzungen variieren zwischen 24 und 60 Fällen von traumatischen Rückenmarksverletzungen pro 1 Million Einwohner. Häufigste Ursachen sind Verkehrsunfälle und Stürze.
